Description	:	Kathleen Lyons Hester, 88, of Fries, Va., passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012, at her home. She was born on July 12, 1923, to the late Minnie Florence and Monte Azariah Lyons in Fries, Va. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Hester. Kathleen will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. During World War II, she painted and refurbished ships at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Md. Read More	Kathleen Lyons Hester, 88, of Fries, Va., passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012, at her home. She was born on July 12, 1923, to the late Minnie Florence and Monte Azariah Lyons in Fries, Va. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Hester. Kathleen will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. During World War II, she painted and refurbished ships at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Md. Later, she taught Sunday school and was a private kindergarten teacher for eight years, a position which she considered not a job, but a labor of love. Children were always her heart and soul, for she thought of them as the most perfect of all God's creations. In her forties, she became a nurse, retiring from Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Va. Nursing, too, was her passion, and had she had her druthers, she would have still been a nurse at the age of 88. Kathleen cherished until her death her family and her many friends and co-workers. Now she is beginning a new mission with Christ, her Lord and Savior. Survivors include one daughter, Jane Cecil and husband, John, of Pikeville, Ky.; two sons, Carl R. (Rocky) Hester and wife, JoAnn, of Dalton, Ga., and Joe Hester and wife, Jackie, of Radford, Va.; one sister, Norma Jean Cornett, of Comers Rock, Va.; one sister-in-law, Allen Lyons, of Fries; one brother-in-law, Dan Hester, of Lafayette, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Hester Austin and husband, Greg, Nathan, Robin and Mark Hester, Tracy Bausano and husband, John, Judy Sarver and husband, Jim and Angela Carroll; 10 great- grandchildren, Will Stocks, Ella, Brittany and Christa Austin, Ethan Gaines, Lucy and Emma Bausano, Russell, Nate and Elizabeth Sarver; and one great-great-grandchild, Caylee Austin also survives. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Fries United Methodist Church beginning at 2 p.m. The Rev. Lee Thomas will be officiating. Internment will follow in the Fries Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Fries United Methodist Church.
