Description	:	My beloved wife, our mother and grandmother, Catherine (Unruh) Toews, was born at Newton, Kansas, on February 14, 1886, and died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home near Sunnyslope, Alberta on Sunday morning Jan. 27, while I, her husband, was in church. Coming home we found her on the davenport where she had laid down to rest. She was suffering from a heart condition and apparently this caused her death. She reached the age of 70 years, 11 months and 13 days. When yet a child her parents, Cornelius P. Unruhs, moved from Kansas to Dallas, Oregon, where she spent her girlhood years. After her father died in 1900, her mother married again in 1901 to Peter W. Toews, who took the family to his home in Steinbach, Manitoba. In her young years mother felt her lost condition, repented and by faith she found forgiveness of her sins through the blood of Jesus Christ and was baptized upon the confession of her faith on March 5, 1905, and became a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, where she remained a faithful member to her end. In 1907 her parents moved to this district of Alberta where she followed them in 1908. On July of the same year she was married to Henry L. Toews and they moved to their homestead which has continued to be their home until now. This union was blessed with nine children, 6 sons and 3 daughters. One son died in infancy. In 1918 mother took to nursing and later opened their home as a nursing home, but discontinued this work in 1940. The years 1951 and '52 they spent at the Rocky Mountain House Indian Mission. She leaves to mourn her bereaved husband, five sons, Claude and Noah of Crooked Creek, Alta.; Paul, Walter and Lewis, of Sunnyslope; three daughters, Lottie (Mrs. John I. Penner), Kleefeld, Man.; Priscilla (Mrs. Walter Klassen) Crooked Creek, Alta.; and Olive (Mrs. Paul Berg) Mt. Lehman, B.C.; two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Jacob L. Toews) Swalwell, Alta.; Emma (Mrs. Ed Lempky) Grand Prairie, Alta.; 2 brothers, Claude Unruh, Mt. Lehman, B.C.; Walter Unruh, Swalwell, Alta.; 3 sons-in-law; 4 daughters-in-law and 42 grandchildren; also her stepmother, Mrs. Dave Friesen, 1 stepsister, Annie (Mrs. Norman Goossen) Carbon, Alta.; stepmother, Herman Toews, and nine step-grandchildren in Manitoba. We mourn our loss, but are confident mother is resting from all her labours and has exchanged her cross for a crown to be with the Saviour forever. Mother, you have left us lonely, Unexpected did you go; You have left the family circle, To our hearts a sudden blow. Yes we know you're with the Master, In that mansion up on high; But our hearts are grieved with sorrow, 'Cause we could not say good-bye. There was no one in your presence, When you laid your weary head; Where we found your body later, Lying on the sofa bed. Had you words within your bosom, Or some wish that you would tell; Ere you left for yonder city, When this world you bade farewell? We have learned by observation, Peacefully you passed away; You had closed your eyes in silence, Life had fled and gone for aye. Words of mother will be ringing, "Come now children follow me, And dear father meet me yonder, Ever in eternity." -The Family. Funeral services were held in the Linden Church on Saturday, February 2, 1957, with Min. Isaac Toews opening with remarks and prayer. Min. F. F. Hiebert chose words of comfort from Psalm 16:5-8; 2 Tim. 4:8, and Matt. 24:44. The body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery, where Min. Ed. Boese closed with remarks and prayer.
