Kathryn Bendene, daughter of James and Bendena (Meyer) Lewis was born on June 9, 1930 at Hecla, SD. She attended country school through 8th grade, and then attended high school in Hecla where she graduated in May of 1948. She married Harley “Fritz” Dinger on June 9, 1948. Read More	Kathryn “Kate” Dinger passed away in her home surrounded by her loved ones on August 16, 2014 at the age of 84. Kathryn Bendene, daughter of James and Bendena (Meyer) Lewis was born on June 9, 1930 at Hecla, SD. She attended country school through 8th grade, and then attended high school in Hecla where she graduated in May of 1948. She married Harley “Fritz” Dinger on June 9, 1948. Together they made their home on a farm southeast of Hecla where they raised their six children. Kate worked on the farm with Fritz, taking out many dinners and lunches. She always had a garden and chickens. She will be remembered for her fried chicken and homemade bread as it was the best. Baking, sewing, quilting, crocheting and making her family big meals kept her busy, but if she had a little spare time, you could find her playing cards with anyone who stopped by the house. She was also a member of the Hecla United Methodist Church. In 1994, Kate and Fritz moved into town. Her home was always filled with children and laughter. Fritz passed away on September 21, 2001. When her health confined her to her recliner, she continued to stay busy. Every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild has a quilt or afghan made by her. Kate made enough quilts so when she was called home to heaven, her future great-grandchildren would also have a quilt made by her. Over the past few months, she loved visiting with Danelle Elsen, who was her morning care provider. She was very grateful for her good neighbor, Dennis Shelton who took care of her yard, and also for her special friend Sandy Anderson. Kate is survived by her six children, Dave (Carolyn) Dinger, Gene (Twyla) Dinger, Cathy (Tyler Telin) Jones, Paula (Ron) Maddocks, Carmen (David) Siefkes, and Dennis (Alissa) Dinger; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ethel Lilla, Jim (Shirley) Lewis, Darlene Dockter, and Robert (Barb) Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, her parents, a brother, Albie Lewis, Sisters, Alice Lewis, Violet Dinger, and Nellie Winburn, and a great-grandson, Peyton Bray.
