Jan 13, 1944 - Carroll Times Herald - Mrs M.F. Funeral services are to be at 9:30 Saturday morning at St Joseph church with Rt Rev Monsignor P.T. Lynch reading the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Mrs Kerwin was born Kathryn Ellen Eagen Sept 29, 1863 at Tiffin, Iowa. She was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Eagen, who later moved to Shelby county. Oct 30, 1883 in the Catholic church at Atlantic, she married Mr Kerwin. They established their home in Shelby county and later moved to a farm near Audubon in Audubon county, where they resided for 21 years. At the end of that time they retired and came to Carroll to make their home. They located here Feb 4, 1913. Mr. Kerwin passed away May 22, 1932. Mrs Kerwin was the mother of 13 childern: nine of whom are living. They are: John Kerwin, Omaha; Mrs E.A. Schiltz (Ella), Mrs William E Schmich (Mary), Thomas J Kerwin, and William J Kerwin, Carroll; Mrs John Kempker (Kathryn) Lemars; Miss Agnes Kerwin, Carroll; Lawrence Kerwin, Tekamah, NE; and Ambrose Kerwin, San Francisco, CA. Mrs Kerwin also leaves 29 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers T.R. Eagen, Thunder Hawk, S.D. and James Eagen, Audubon; and one sister Mrs W.J. Campbell, Audubon. One son, Michael, died May 30, 1918 while serving his country in World War I. Mrs Kerwin was also preceded in death by three children who died in infancy and three brothers. Mrs. Kerwin belonged to St. Joseph's Church, the Senior Blessed Virgin Sodality of the parish, and Court St. Rose of Lima No. 6, Catholic Daughters of America. She was a Gold Star mother of the Carroll unit of the American Legion Auxiliary. Members of the Auxiliary, the Catholic Daughters and the Blessed Virgin Sodality will attend the funeral services in groups.
