Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron, with burial at St. William Catholic Cemetery in Yale, SD. Kathryn was born on January 25, 1913 to William and Agnes (Marsh) Davis on the family's homestead by Yale, SD. She grew up in the Yale area where she attended school. She graduated high school from Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell, and received her teaching certificate from Northern Normal in Aberdeen, SD. She taught school at Yale and Custer, SD. In 1944, she moved to Washington DC where she worked for the FBI in the domestic intelligence division until 1975. She married Lawrence Van Fleet August 6, 1949 in Washington DC. Kathryn was a wonderful hostess when family and friends visited DC. She would take you to the sight-seeing places, drop you off, and return to pick you up as there was no parking in DC. She did this countless times, and she was always "the driver" for her friends in DC and in Huron. Kathryn was a devoted member of every Catholic Parish of which she was a member. She took an active role in the raising of funds to build the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC. She received the Pius X Medal for outstanding service to her Parish in Washington from the Archdiocese in 1970 where she also attended daily Mass. She remains an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Kathryn returned to Huron at retirement in 1975 and became active in the Senior Citizens of Huron and was an important part of running the senior center at the SD State Fair for many years. She was a member of Retired Federal Employees, and Society of Former FBI Women. She enjoyed volunteering at the Huron Hospital where she was named Volunteer of the Month. She is survived by her sister-in-law Evelyn Davis of Worthington, MN; first cousins: Mary Thomas and Betty Bergstrom, both of Huron; and thirteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; brothers: George, Everett, Emmett, Celestine and LeRoy; sisters: Eva, Marguerite and Lois; and nephew, Edward Davis. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
