She was born May 8, 1911, at home on Eighth Street in Kansas City, Missouri to Edgar Homer and Ida Lucina (Wickersham) Palmer. Kathryn was a member of the Upper Fall River Lutheran Church. She was raised in Fall River, and later attended Pittsburg State University. After receiving her certification in education, Kathryn taught school in rural Greenwood County for four years. She was born May 8, 1911, at home on Eighth Street in Kansas City, Missouri to Edgar Homer and Ida Lucina (Wickersham) Palmer. Kathryn was a member of the Upper Fall River Lutheran Church. She was raised in Fall River, and later attended Pittsburg State University. After receiving her certification in education, Kathryn taught school in rural Greenwood County for four years. On June 1, 1932, she was united in marriage to Harry "Hap" E. Jackson of rural Greenwood County, in Marion. He died on June 13, 2001. She is survived by two daughters; one son, Edd Jackson of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Ida Grace, Armor of Chico, California. Kathryn was a 4-H member, and youth leader serving on the Ivanpah School Board for 19 years and a community leader for the Upper Fall River Jayhawkers 4-H club. She also served on the Greenwood County Extension Board, Farm Bureau, and was President of the Lutheran Church Women. An active partner in the ranching operation, Kathryn and Hap shared many awards including Kansas Bankers Conservation Award, National Wildlife Conservation Award, Lutheran Service Award, and Kansas Master Farmer and Homemaker Award. Kathryn and her family served as hosts to over eighty foreign visitors and exchange students. She was involved in the Ag in the Classroom program for twenty years and hosted many school groups. The past several years she has been coordinating the "Historic storytelling" covering Greenwood County and items of interest. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one daughter. Aside from her children, she is survived by one sister, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 1, 2004 at Christ Lutheran Church, in Eureka, with Pastor Roger Dennis of the Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Cremation has been effected. A memorial has been established in her name with Ag in the Classroom. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045.
