She was born on January 11, 1911 near Plymouth, NE. to Heinrich and Marie (Wiens) Albrecht. She was a 1930 graduate of Plymouth High School in Plymouth, NE. Katie and Fred Claassen were married on October 15, 1936 and lived on a farm near Ellis, NE. before moving into Beatrice in 1988. She was an active member of the First Mennonite Church, R. Beatrice; past member of the Homesteader Extension Club; and past member of the former Mennonite Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and sewing. Katie's survivors include her daughter Evelyn Brown and husband Wallace; 2 grandsons Andrew Schrag and wife Deborah, and David Schrag, all of Warrensburg, MO.; 2 step grandchildren Paul Brown and wife Theresa, and Denise Turner and husband Bryan; 1 great grandchild, Bernadette Schrag; and 3 step great grandchildren Spencer, Dalsy, and Benjamin Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents Heinrich and Marie (Wiens) Albrecht; husband Fred Claassen (1994); sister Agnes Jantzen; and son in law Gerald Schrag. Memorial: A memorial has been established to the Mennonite Central Committee and the Mother to Mother Ministry with Gerald and Rogena Jantzen in charge. Cemetery: Interment will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Mennonite Cemetery, R. Beatrice. Visitations: The body will lie in state Tuesday from 3-9:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel and not at the church, with the family greeting friends from 5:30-7:00 Tuesday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 A.M. Wednesday at the church. Services: Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the First Mennonite Church, west of Beatrice with Reverend Weldon Schloneger officiating.
