Description	:	First President of the local American Legion Auxiliary Mrs. Katie Harmon Haselden, wife of Mayor S. J. Haselden, of Hemingway, died Thursday in the McLeod Infirmary in Florence, SC. following an extended illness. Funeral services were held at the Hemingway Methodist Church with the Rev. E. A. Wilkes, of West Columbia officiating, assisted by the Rev. E. B. Johnson and the Rev. Leroy Calder, pastor of the Hemingway Baptist Church. Mrs Haselden was the daughter of Mrs. Mary Gasque Harmon and the late Roswell Thomas Harmon. She attended Hemingway High School, Winthrop College and Draughn's Business College in Greenville. She helped organize and was the first president of the Hemingway American Legion Auxiliary. During the war she was a member of the service wives club and worked with the Red Cross. In 1936 she married her high school sweetheart, Sam Joe Haselden and they were married for 14 years until her death. Katie was a leader and was active in community affairs her entire life. Survivors besides her mother and husband are two sisters, Mrs. John G. Ulmer of Hemingway and Mrs. Joe C. Cain of Florence; two nieces, Miss Nancy Ruth Ulmer of Hemingway and Mrs. B. W. McLean of Chapel Hill, NC; one nephew, John G. Ulmer, Jr., a student at the University of North Carolina. Source: News & Courier 18 Aug. 1950 & multiple newspaper articles.
