Description	:	Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Friday, May 29, 1942 Mrs. Katie Fass, widow of the late Matt Fass, died shortly after eight o'clock this morning at the family home, 2004 West John street. Mrs. Fass had been ill six months and bedfast three months. Funeral rites will be held on Monday morning at nine o'clock with the observance of solemn requiem mass in St. Mary's cathedral. Interment will be in the family space in the St. Libory cemetery. Mrs. Fass, nee Katie Kastel, was born in Kiel, Germany, Dec. 19, 1864. When she was 15 years old, the family came to this community to settle in the St. Libory community. She married Matt Fass in February of 1885. They made their first home in Rice county, Kansas, where they lived for four years before returning to reside on a farm south of Grand Island. In 1895, Mr. and Mrs. Fass moved to the city. Mr. Fass died on January 19, 1932. Mrs. Fass was a life-long member of the Catholic church and was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish. Surviving are three sons, John and Matt at home and Valentine Fass of Big Piney, Wyo., three daughters, Mrs. Mary Burnett, Lincoln, and Mrs. Margaret Adams and Mrs. Katherine Harris, both of this city; three brothers, Mike Kastel of Wayne; Hans Kastel of this city; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Gruber of San Francisco, Cal., and 10 grandchildren. Four sons, Frank, George and two infants; two brothers, Thomas and John Kastel, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Wisenborn, preceded her in death. (Further funeral arrangements omitted here)
