Description	:	Kay, beloved mother, wife and grandmother, went to join her Lord on Oct. 24, 2006. She was born to Lawrence and Helen Kerns, in Marion, Kan., on April 18, 1936. Kay and her brothers were raised by her mother and stepfather, Van Hosmer, in Tulsa, Okla. She attended schools in Marion, Kan., and Tulsa. Read More	Kay, beloved mother, wife and grandmother, went to join her Lord on Oct. 24, 2006. She was born to Lawrence and Helen Kerns, in Marion, Kan., on April 18, 1936. Kay and her brothers were raised by her mother and stepfather, Van Hosmer, in Tulsa, Okla. She attended schools in Marion, Kan., and Tulsa. After graduation she moved to California with her mother and father, where she went to work for McDonald Douglas Aircraft Company. She became active in the figure-skating dance club for several years. She married Robert Chartier and had two sons. When they divorced, she and her boys moved to Montana in 1964. They lived in a one-room cabin with no running water up Telegraph Creek. She moved to Helena and went to work for Henneseys in 1965. Through the love they shared for dancing, she met the love of her life, John Hydes, in 1966. They were married Jan. 22, 1967, in Helena. Through the years she has worked for Carroll College, Western Life Insurance, Lincoln Life Insurance and spent nine years as Dr. Ballengiers' receptionist. In the 40 years of marriage, Kay and John spent much of their time dancing, camping and going to high school football games. After retirement they spent many years traveling in their motor home visiting family and friends. She was a proud member of the Eagles Lodge #16, where she was very active and a past madam president. Life was not busy enough for this vibrant lady, so she started another career as a paraprofessional with SAC Program for the Helena School District #1. Here she touched many children's lives. Kay was not only precious to her family but an asset to the community. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather; her brothers, Larry and Ron Kerns; and many beloved pets. Kay is survived by her husband; two sons; four stepchildren; and a sister-in-law. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles; numerous nieces and nephews; 13 grandchildren; and is "granny" to 18 great-grandchildren.
