Kay was born in Leavenworth, WA to Louis and Nita West and was the oldest of six siblings. She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1956, and was Apple Blossom Princess that year, which was an honor she was very proud of. Kay achieved Head Baton Majorette all four years of high school, which was a big accomplishment. She was also able to successfully achieve all five chairs in Rainbow Girls and was Worthy Advisor for her final year. After high school, she attended Central Washington University for two years. Kay married her high school sweetheart, Gary Dyment, in August of 1958, in Leavenworth, where they made their home and raised their family. Kay worked seasonally at the Peshastin and Leavenworth fruit warehouses for several years, sorting fruit. In 1989, she went to work at the Leavenworth Safeway, where she was affectionately known as "Katie." Kay loved people and enjoyed interacting with them when they came into the store. She always seemed to have a kind word, a helping hand and a beautiful smile. People in the community may remember "Katie" by her many adorable costumes she loved to dress up in at work during the holidays. Kay had a passion for exercising and staying fit and especially loved to dance. She spent many years dancing in the Leavenworth Amber Leaf Theatre, along with her many dance recitals with Carolyn's School of Dance. Later, she joined Gold's Gym and was a member for many years. A devoted wife, Kay and Gary celebrated their 50 year golden Wedding Anniversary in Hawaii in 2008. One of the highlights of Kay's life was the many years spent riding behind Gary on their Goldwing Motorcycle and traveling all over the Pacific Northwest with the Goldwing Road Riders Association. Kay was a loving mother to her four children, Kevin Dyment (deceased wife, Charlene) of Centerville, WA, Kayla Dyment of Port Angeles, WA, Katrina Ramirez of Wenatchee, WA and Kent Dyment (wife, Teresa) of East Wenatchee, WA. Much of Kay's life was centered around her family and she was grandma "Nanny" to 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She enjoyed family gatherings and being a homemaker. Kay loved all things beautiful; flowers, music, poetry, perfume and everything RED. She will be remembered as a beautiful person, inside and out, who was "forever 29." Kay is survived by her husband, Gary; her four children; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four sisters, Judy Larson of East Wenatchee, Carol Porter and Sandy Houston, both of Leavenworth and Pennie Davis of Quincy; and one brother, Scott West of Leavenworth. Kay was preceded in death by her mother and father; a daughter-in-law; and one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service Celebrating Kay's Life will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
