OBITUARY: KEE SAMPLES Kee Kenneth Samples, the son of Salathiel and Kate (Stevens) Samples, was born in Holbrook, Nebraska on October 5, 1911 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on November 4, 1999, at the age of 88 years and 29 days. He was raised in Holbrook. His family first lived on a farm and then moved to town. He was valedictorian of Holbrook High School Class of 1928, where he was active in music and athletics. Kee started his own retail grocery store in Holbrook before moving to Hayes Center, where he also owned his own grocery store. He was united in marriage to Mildred Banwell in 1933 in Holbrook, Nebraska. They had two sons, Jim and Ken. Mildred passed away on January 1, 1958. Kee married Doris (Meese) Kingston on December 20, 1959 in Aurora, Nebraska. Kee worked for Safeway Stores in McCook, Cozad and Aurora for many years. He later worked for Red and White in Aurora. He was a member of the First Christian Church, past board member of the Hamilton County Senior Center, and member of two singing groups: Victory Five and the Four Sharps & Two Flats. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mildred; one sister, Gladys Stueber; one son, Roger Kingston; a son-in-law, Pete Pizzolato; daughter-in-law Jean Kingston, and a grandson, Michael Kingston. He is survived by his wife Doris of Aurora; three sons, Jim and his wife Cheryl Samples of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Ken and his wife Carmen Samples of Batavia, Illinois, Jimmy Kingston of Red Cloud; two daughters, Melva Jean Haack of Bradshaw and Grace and her husband Jim Nordlund of Grand Island; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.
