Born August 17, 1925 in rural Henry County near Winfield, he was the son of Charles and Jessie (Griffith) Long. Keith grew up in Henry County attending country schools near his farm. He was a 1943 graduate from Crawfordsville High School where he participated in baseball, basketball, track and fine arts. On October 2, 1948, he married Vonda Rose in Washington, IA. Keith and Vonda spent most of their married life in Ottumwa residing there for 45 years. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2000. Keith was a WWII United States Marine Veteran having served in the Southwest Pacific from 1943-1946. In April of 2008, he was a member of the first Iowa WWII Honor Tour to Washington DC. On Veteran's Day 2015, he was the recipient of the Veterans Honor Quilt. He worked for John Morrell and Company in Ottumwa, Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and later as an accessor for the city of Ottumwa. An avid sports enthusiast, Keith enjoyed following local high school athletic teams. He was a lifetime fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He loved spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include a daughter, a son, 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren,also surviving are 2 step-grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Vonda; 3 brothers, Orville, Lyle and Kenneth; and 2 sisters, Leota and Lorraine.
