Layton, 87, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, October 27, 2002, at Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa. He was born December 10, 1914 at Judd, North Dakota, the son of Wallace William and Mattie Hazel Rusk Layton. On July 17, 1937, he was united in marriage to Irene Finch at Newton. They lived in Newton until moving to Oskaloosa and opened the Layton's Music Store on November 1, 1946, and operated the store for 30 years until selling to Bill Mattingly. He was well known for his Christmas decorations at his home on the north edge of Oskaloosa. He was an avid bird watcher and bird bander for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa Ornithologists Union, and the Inland Bird Banding Association. He and his wife sold tickets for the horse show arena at the Iowa State Fair for 13 years. He also enjoyed gardening. Keith is survived by a brother and his wife, Beryl and Patricia Layton of Cedar Rapids; and nieces and nephews. Keith was preceded in death by his wife on March 29, 1998; his parents; a brother: Kenneth; and a sister: Glyndin McGriff. Funeral services for Keith Layton will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa with the Reverend Michael Crouch officiating. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery at Newton. Visitation will be Tuesday, and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 6:30 ? 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
