He was born Oct. 21, 1922 in Fairfield to Frank L. and Loretta Joy Edwards McFarland. He married Mildred R. Douthart on Jan. 16, 1946 at Fairfield Methodist Church. She died Dec. 27, 1978. He married Dorothy Boley Davis on Sept. 2, 1979 at Keosauqua Methodist Church. He graduated from Fairfield High School, was a World War II Navy veteran and a Korean War Army veteran. He had worked at Barker Company in Keosauqua and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He lived in Bonaparte before moving to West Branch where he worked at the University of Iowa in Iowa City as a custodian and was a custodian for Hoover Park in West Branch. He retired in 1975 and moved to Lockridge. He is survived by his wife; a son, Gary of Fairfield; and a brother, Warren "Bud" of Kirksville. He was preceded in death by a sister Lucille Fray. The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 1989 at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. Lester Smith officiating. Burial was in Bonaparte Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association, Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
