Description	:	Kelly Gene Briggs, age 52, of Bridgewater, formerly of Watertown, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 27 at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. The Rev. James Jahnke will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Livingston as organist and Doug Meseberg as soloist. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion of Watertown, the Funeral Honors Team of the S.D. Army National Guard and the Patriot Guard Riders. Kelly was born on Nov. 26, 1959, at Florence to Gerald and Rosemarie (Murphy) Briggs. He attended a one-room country school to the fourth grade and then attended Watertown schools graduating in 1977. Kelly served in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 1982 as a medical specialist in Germany. Following his service to his country, he worked at Old Home Bakery from 1989 to 2002. On Feb. 14, 2005, Kelly married Janis Unruh at Salem. The couple raised their family and made their home in Bridgewater. He enjoyed taking his wife and granddaughter fishing. Kelly loved playing pool and riding horse. He had horses since he was 6 years old and started training horses in 1989. He enjoyed riding horses with his friends in Custer State Park. Kelly is survived by his wife, Janis of Bridgewater; three children, Wayne Briggs and Donald Briggs both of Watertown and Debra (Mike) Thomas of Sioux Falls; two stepchildren, Ryan Grove and Misty Grove of Mitchell; three grandchildren; his father, Gerald Briggs of Holbrook, Ariz.; his mother, Rosemarie Fromke of Watertown; three brothers, Jason (Christina) Fromke of Richland, N.C., and David (Jen) Fromke and Mark (Shannon) Fromke all of Watertown; and two sisters, Kandi (Paul) Keith of Springfield and Kristi (Thomas) Tafoya of Holbrook.
