He was born August 11, 1942 in Hardtner, Kansas, the son of Wendell Ray and Margaret Ellen (Wheeler) Warren. On October 14, 1960 he married Robin Lynn (McElyea) Warren. She survives. Kendell was a pharmaceutical salesman for Hoffman LaRoche for 38 years in Wichita, Kansas. He was a man of many interests. Three of his passions were American history, Kansas Jayhawk basketball, and soccer. Kendell was an avid reader, with a personal library of nearly 3,000 books. He loved to tour Civil War battlefields and historic homes, attend historical lectures, and visit Virginia wineries. Kendell loved nothing more than to watch his beloved Jayhawks with his family and attended many games at Allen Field House and other arenas across the country. He was the coach of the Magic Mist Soccer Club and at Goddard High School where he won a state championship in 1992. Kendell coached hundreds of young men to not only play the beautiful game, but also to become men of integrity, honesty, and responsibility. Kendell moved to Williamsburg from Wichita, Kansas in 2003. He was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, a previous Shriner, a member of the Virginia Historical Society, participated in numerous Civil War Round Tables in Williamsburg and Richmond and was an active member of Colonial Williamsburg. Above all, Kendell’s greatest passion was his family. A true patriarch, he provided support and advice, was always quick to laugh, and had an irresistible presence in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Whether discussing history and politics with his children, playing games with his grandchildren, or sneaking a hug from his wife, Kendell’s capacity for love never reached a maximum. Survivors in addition to his wife, Robin, include: 2 sons, Kendell (Angelina) Warren of Petersburg, VA and Christopher (Jennifer) Warren of Centreville, VA; 2 daughters, Tammy (Steve) Evans of Birmingham, AL and Margaret Jo Dodd of De Soto, Kansas; 1 brother, Johnny (Beverly) Warren of Oklahoma; and 10 grandchildren, Conner, Charisa and Lindsay Dodd, Donovan and Dempsey Warren, Jake, Tess and Kenny Evans, and Abigail and Pierce Warren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Viewing will be Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., with the Funeral Service following at 2:00 p.m. at Lake City United Methodist Church, 113 E. Main St., Lake City, KS 67034, with Kathy Webster presiding. Burial will follow at Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Civil War Trust in care of Larrison Mortuary
