Read More	Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home - Harlan, Iowa Kenneth Dale Schafer March 28, 1935 ~ September 11, 2014 Kenneth Dale Schafer, son of Frank Walter and Carolyn (Smith) Schafer, was born on March 28, 1935, on the family farm near Persia, Iowa. He grew up on that farm and graduated from Persia High School in 1952, where he played baseball. In March 1954, Kenny married Doris Mae Butt; the couple later divorced. He married Marjorie Ann Domino on September 17, 1960, in Fremont, Nebraska. For a number of years, Kenny worked as a cab driver and at the U.S. Post Office in the Omaha, Nebraska, area. Most of Kenny’s working years were spent as an over-the-road truck driver. From 1976-85, he owned a bar in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. In 1989, Kenny and Marge retired to Earling, where he drove a school bus for the Harlan Community School District. Marge died on March 28, 2000, in Omaha. Kenny then married Edna Langenfeld Finken on November 29, 2003, in Earling, Iowa. Kenny was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa, and the Eagles Club in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. During the late 1960s, he served as a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed sports, and was an avid Nebraska football fan. Kenny also liked to hunt and fish, play Bingo, and do woodworking in his garage. Kenneth D. Schafer died on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 14 days. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marge Schafer, on March 28, 2000; two sons, Kenneth Schafer, Jr., and Keith Schafer; two brothers and one sister, Elmer, Bill, and Alice; one step-son, Billy Domino; and one step-daughter, JoEllen Hansen. He is survived by his wife, Edna Schafer of Earling, Iowa; two sons, Kevin (Jane) Schafer of Anoka, Minnesota, and Kerry Schafer of Nashville, Tennessee; one step-daughter, Linda Domino of Omaha, Nebraska; four step-sons, Randy Domino of Omaha, Nebraska, Bart (Barbara) Finken of Maricopa, Arizona, Jerry Finken of Earling, Iowa, and James Finken of Ladera Ranch, California; one daughter-in-law, Julie Schafer of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Evelyn Davis of Pineville, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Katie (Jason) Blake, Scott (Jenna) Schafer, Craig (Mary) Schafer, Amy (Donavan) Brooks, and Zach Schafer; several step-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, September 15, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa, with Father Chris Fontanini celebrating. Mary Wilwerding and Janet Blum served as musicians. Casket bearers were Craig Schafer, Kerry Schafer, Scott Schafer, Randall Domino, Darin Cingle, and Michael Cingle.
