Kenneth Donavon Dean was born to Jackson and Emma Dean May 21, 1931, in Kaylor. They farmed until Kenneth was 15, then they moved to Scotland. He worked for Ben Ireland and the Scotland Creamery. On August 12, 1956, he married Nona McClain. He served in the 92nd Armored Infantry Battalion-6th Armored Division from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.The couple moved to Rapid City in 1960 where he helped build the missile sites east of Rapid City. He then became an apprentice carpenter for Knect Lumber Company. He also had his own business, Kenneth Dean Construction, where he built fences and did construction in the Rapid City area. He was also employed by Trautman Construction. He worked construction until he retired at the age of 62. The couple moved to Parkston after his wife retired from working. The two of them became very involved at the Parkston Senior Center for eight years. In 2006, the couple moved to Denton, Texas. He died at his home, June 20, 2018 at the age of 87. Survivors include three children, Scott (Jessica) Dean, Denton, Texas, Paulette (Roman) Mueller, Cape Coral, Florida, and James Dean, Denton, Texas; three grandchildren, Cassandra (Daniel) Lowe, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and Chandler and Jackson Dean, Denton, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Destiny, Devon and Catarra Lowe, all of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Orin (Lenora) Dean, Eldora (Duane) Smock and Violet (Oakley) Rowe.
