He operated a restaurant, service station and farm supply store. Death was attributed to a heart attack which struck suddenly as he was at work in his office at the restaurant. Kenneth Durward Freeman was born on June 10, 1910, at Craig, Nebraska, to John and Aurilla (Goodman) Freeman. He passed away suddenly at his place of business in Herman, Nebraska, on October 21, 1966, at the age of 56. He was baptized and joined the Methodist Church at Craig at the age of 10. He was untied in marriage to Dorothy Ruby Moore on December 24, 1931. To this union was born one daughter, Mary Jane (Mrs. Cameron Jackson) of Herman, Nebraska. Preceding him in death was his wife, his parents, and one brother. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter and her husband; two grandchildren, Kenneth and Carma Jackson; one brother, Clarence Freeman of Cascade, Montana; two sisters, Bernice of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Blanche (Mrs. Eldred Reinert) of South Gate, California; his fiancée, Elsie Brummond; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Kenneth spent his early life on a farm near Craig, Nebraska, where he engaged in farming with his father. He moved to Herman, Nebraska, in 1933, where he entered into business which he continued until his death. He was very active in business, civic and community affairs, serving as a member of the Town Board, the Volunteer Fire Department, and the Community Club. His helpfulness and inspiration to many of the youth of the community will long be remembered. Funeral services were held Monday, October 24, at the Herman American Legion Hall. Burial was made at Craig. The Herman schools as well as many of the business houses were closed Monday afternoon for the funeral. Serving as pallbearers were Dick “Coolidge, Stubb Pierson, Tod Brodersen, Joe Fitch, Bill Peck and John Gregerson.
