Description	:	Kenneth Edward Farrell was born December 19, 1924, in Whittemore, Iowa, the son of James LeRoy and Kathleen (Walsh) Farrell. He grew up on the farm and attended school at the Presentation Academy, graduating in 1943. Read More	Kenneth Edward Farrell was born December 19, 1924, in Whittemore, Iowa, the son of James LeRoy and Kathleen (Walsh) Farrell. He grew up on the farm and attended school at the Presentation Academy, graduating in 1943. He joined the United States Army in December of 1944 and served his country until his honorable discharge in November of 1946. He returned to Whittemore where he farmed and began as a rural mail carrier on July 16, 1948 and continued until January 10, 1980. On March 4, 1957, Kenny was united in marriage to Florence Kollasch at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. After their marriage Kenny farmed and was proud to say that he was able to operate a combine for 63 consecutive years while also continuing his 86 miles-per-day mail route. After his retirement he started working at the Whittemore Golf Course as a greenskeeper and he and his wife later became managers. Kenny loved to fish both locally and also in Sioux LookOut, Onatrio Canada the last 20+ years. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening, grilling, cooking and playing cards, most especially Cribbage, Euchre, and "Pass the Ace" with his grandchildren and family, He liked to attend his grandchildren's activites when his health allowed, and was their No. 1 fan in the stands. Kenny served as the official photographer of the 1978 Whittemore Centennial and was honored to be named Grand Marshal of the 2010 Algona St. Patrick's Day Parade. He was an active member of St. Michael's Parish, Holy Name Society, Whittemore Community Betterment Club, Whittemore Gun Club, and was past Commander of Seely-Walsh Post #425 of the American Legion where he has been a member for the past 67 consecutive years. Kenny, along with a few other local men, was instrumental in developing the recreational area outside of Whittemore that is known today as "Siems Park". He was also a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Kenny died Monday, November 19, 2012, at his home in Whittemore at the age of 87. He is survived by his children, Linda Farrell of Whittemore; Betty Mowrey of Algona; Karen and Randy Rayhons of Ventura; Cindy and Keith Lowe of Mason City; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Helen "Skip" Wirth of Des Moines; Emy Farrell of Algona; Leo Farrell of Jacksonville, FL; Tom Farrell of Prairie City and several nieces and nephews.
