Description	:	Kenneth E. Smart, age 88, of Newark, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021. He was born on September 15, 1932, to the late Perley and Pearl (Lescalleet) Smart in Brownsville, OH. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Monday, June 28, 2021, at Heath Church, 80 Licking View Dr, Heath, OH, 43056. Family will greet friends from 11am-1pm at the church prior to the service. Reverend Neal Skiles will officiate. Mr. Smart will be laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery following the service, where the Licking County Veterans Alliance will render military honors. Ken... Read More	Kenneth E. Smart, age 88, of Newark, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021. He was born on September 15, 1932, to the late Perley and Pearl (Lescalleet) Smart in Brownsville, OH. Ken proudly served his country as a member of the US Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Korea 69th Ordinance Ammo Company. On returning home, Ken took a job as a truckdriver for Railway Express and worked there until 1975. He then worked for 19 more years at Newark City Schools as a security officer before finally retiring in 1995. Ken was a member of the American Legion and of Heath Church for many years. His hobbies included woodworking, trains, and collecting state flags from every state he visited. Ken also enjoyed camping with his family and friends at every opportunity. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, three daughters, two sons, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, a step-son and a step-daughter and their spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren, two brothers a daughter-in-law, several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, a daughter-in-law, and his in-laws and nieces. In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Margaret Smart. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Ken's memory be made to Heath Church, 80 Licking View Dr, Heath, OH 43056.
