Urnbearers are Nick Schenkel and Christopher Ackerman. Honorary urnbearers will be Kenneth's co-workers at Gerstner Oil. Kenneth G. Ackerman was born September 11, 1929, in Gayville, South Dakota to Walter and Ina (Mikkelson) Ackerman. He grew up in Yankton County and worked various jobs until he was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1952. He served in Japan during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. He moved back to Yankton County and started working on Gavins Point Dam. He farmed for 8 years on the family farm then purchased the Mayfield Store, which he ran for 5 years. He moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where he lived for a short time until moving back to Yankton County. He owned Ackerman Trucking and hauled livestock and grain for 10 years and then began driving for Gerstner Oil for 22 years. He married Marlene Solomon on June 25, 1990 in Vermillion, South Dakota. He was a member of Martinus Lutheran Church in Utica, South Dakota and the Yankton VFW. He enjoyed fast pitch softball as a pitcher and as a coach. He also enjoyed making wine and spending time with his friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Marlene Ackerman of Utica, South Dakota; four daughters: Sharon Ackerman of Texas; Barbara (Tom) Bruder of Yankton; Linda (Dan) Schenkel of Yankton; and Jackie (Jon) Grosdidier of Douglas, Wyoming; three sons: Kenneth R. Ackerman of Yankton; Larry Ackerman of Sioux Falls; and Greg Ackerman of Yankton; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brother: Jerald (Janet) Ackerman of Sioux Falls; two sisters: Charlotte McManus of Irene and Arlene Kreeger of Freeport, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald R. Ackerman; and brother Marvin Ackerman. - Wintz & Ray Funeral Home
