Kenneth was born on January 5, 1929, to Herman and Rose (Gentrup) Guenther at their home near West Point, NE. After attending rural school District 21 for 8 years, Ken worked on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from April, 1951 to March, 1953. Despite only having an 8th grade education Kenneth became a sergeant. He was a member of the 79th Engineer Construction Battalion. Kenneth married Betty Wolff on June 1, 1954, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Aloys, NE. They farmed in various places in northern Cuming County and settled on a farm on Highway 51 west of Bancroft. He started as a hired man and eventually established his own dairy operation called B-Ken Dairy, named after himself and his wife, Betty. Dairying became Ken's passion and he developed one of state's top herds in production. He was member of the Mid-America Dairy Association, the Nebraska Holstein Association, and the National Holstein Association. In 1987, he received the Nebraska Distinguished Dairyman Award. Ken enjoyed square dancing for 18 years and was a member of two square dance clubs: Country Sunshine in Pender and the Bustle and Beaux in West Point. He was a member of the Beemer American Legion, Holy Cross Catholic Church, and was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. Ken and Betty moved to Beemer in June of 2011. To the end, Ken enjoyed meeting new people, telling stories and jokes, and maintaining loving relationships with his ever-enlarging family. Survivors include his wife, Betty; children Peggy Mace and husband Jim of Hastings, Ron and wife Doris (Hagedorn) of rural Bancroft, Connie Prinz and husband Bill of Lincoln, Dan Guenther and wife Barb (Fischer) of Waterloo, IA, and Alice Klitz and husband John of rural West Point; siblings Genevieve Hass, Rosalee Guenther, Herman Guenther and wife Pat, Richard Guenther and wife Mary Kay, and Helen Kucera. He also is survived by 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: Melanie Mace (Karl Bakker) and daughter Maisey, Heather Mace (Travis Spillers) and sons Truman and Ward, Paul Guenther (Katie Houtwed) and son Gradyn and daughter Brynlee, Leah (Nic) Bethune and son William and daughter Shelby, Andrew Guenther (Cassie Heidbrink) and sons Isaac and Luke and daughter Grace, Hannah Goulette (Randy) and son Sawyer, Kendra Mace, Ryan Guenther, Michael Guenther and fiancé Mary Kate Murphy, Mikayla Klitz, Brianna (Jeff) Smith, Cameron Klitz, Joseph Guenther, Brandon Guenther, Sarah Prinz, Kirsten Klitz, and Eric Klitz. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Sara; siblings Dolores Ulrich and her husband Martin, Mary Ann Kind and husband Elton, brother-in-law Arvid Hass.
