Description	:	Kenneth H. Schulz, better known as "Kenny" by his family and friends, was born January 6, 1928 on the original Schulz homestead south of Philip, the son of Herman and Mildred (Welsh) Schulz. He attended country school until the 7th grade, when he entered school in Philip. He graduated from Philip High School in 1946. After graduation, he worked on the family farm/ranch until 1951 when he entered into the United States Army on March 2, 1951. Schulz, better known as "Kenny" by his family and friends, was born January 6, 1928 on the original Schulz homestead south of Philip, the son of Herman and Mildred (Welsh) Schulz. He attended country school until the 7th grade, when he entered school in Philip. He graduated from Philip High School in 1946. After graduation, he worked on the family farm/ranch until 1951 when he entered into the United States Army on March 2, 1951. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Grim on February 21, 1953 in Pennsauken, New Jersey. After their marriage they returned to the farm/ranch where they have resided for forty-eight years. Kenneth especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, which he was very proud of. He enjoyed music, which was evident through his memberships in the Wall Square Dance Club, Bad River Dance Club, Haakon County Crooners, and the Cantata. Kenny was also a life member of the Wheeler-Brooks American Legion Post #173 of Philip, where he was Post Commander at three different times. Kenny was also very active in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Philip, where he was confirmed as a child, holding many offices through the years. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife JoAnn Schulz of Philip, one son, Karl Schulz and his wife Val of Philip; three daughters, Susan Hoyme and her husband Roger of Watertown, SD, Marie Rogers and her husband Duane of Rushmore, MN, Sarah Lewis and her husband Eric of Spicer, MN; ten grandchildren, Heather, Stephanie, Andrew, and Kyle Schulz, Nicholas and Marit Hoyme, Marena, Janile, and Kristen Lewis, and Summer Rogers. Funeral services for Kenneth H. "Kenny" Schulz, age 73, of Philip was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2001 at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor David Otten officiating. Kenneth died early Tuesday morning, November 27, 2001 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip. Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2001 at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip. Interment with military honors by the American Legion Post #173 of Philip, was in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip, South Dakota. A memorial is established.
