Roby Saturday, March 19, 2005 9:23 AM EST CUMBERLAND - Kenneth Keith Roby, 80, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Friday, March 18, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born Oct. 9, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Clarence and Persis (Shrout) Roby. Two brothers, Theodore Roby and James Roby, also preceded him in death. Roby Saturday, March 19, 2005 9:23 AM EST CUMBERLAND - Kenneth Keith Roby, 80, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Friday, March 18, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born Oct. 9, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Clarence and Persis (Shrout) Roby. Two brothers, Theodore Roby and James Roby, also preceded him in death. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Roby was retired from Columbia Gas Company. He was a school bus driver for Henderson's School Bus Company, a paratrooper in the U. S. Army in World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater including New Guinea, Philippines and Japan. He was awarded several theatre ribbons and the Word War II victory ribbon. He was also a member of St. Mary's Church and the "F" club. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Marie (Brinker) Roby; three daughters, Donna Kaye Walters and husband Gary, Falls Church, Va., Christine Ann Paugh and husband Kevin, West Chester, Pa., and Suzanne Marie Duckworth and husband Russell, Cumberland; two sons, Lawrence Keith Roby and wife Connie, of Reading, Pa., and Kenneth Bruce Roby and his wife Rusti, Cumberland; 13 grandchildren, Scott Walters, Jennifer Kaye Walters Eubank, Christopher Roby, Rachel Roby, J. P. Roby, Brian Roby, Sean McCarty, Scott VanEcko, Holly Paugh, Doug Paugh, Daniel Paugh, Jordan Paugh, and Dalton Duckworth; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Paugh, and Sebastian Roby; nieces, nephews and all of the many school children he fondly transported over the years. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake will be conducted on Sunday at 8:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Combined Veterans Honor Guard will accord military honors. Contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society. He was such a kind and gentle man. Some 20 years ago, Ken drove our Allegany High School team bus to most, if not all, of our away games. I am sure that all of the players, coaches and fans join me in extending our sincere condolences to his family and friends. During football season, we would run into each other at the stadium and he would always ask about the "boys" and the upcoming basketball season. Win or lose, Ken always had a kind word to say about the boys. He was a loyal supporter of the Fort Hill Sentinels and was extremely proud of the good folks in the "South End" of town. Athletics afford participants the opportunity to meet many terrific people. Ken Roby was one of the good guys. He will be missed. Sincerely, Tim Scaletta, LaVale
