Church Sunday KENNETH BOICE, 17 year old son of MR. AND MRS. HIRAM BOICE, who lived on the old McGregor farm, just northwest of town met with death Thursday evening Sept 3 by drowning in the river in their pasture. The young man mounted a horse to go after the cattle which were on some islands in the river and just how the accident happened will never be known as no one saw it. His father who had been working in the field drove into the barn yard just in time to see the horse coming up out of the river. He knew that something had happened to his son and ran with all speed to the spot and waded into the water as far as he could without great danger to himself but the only evidence of his son was the lad's straw hat floating on the water. An alarm was given and soon motor boats from town were on the spot and many people came in cars from town and the neighborhood and the work of dragging the river for the body began at once, but it was not until five minutes of seven that the searchers found the body. It was about 5 o'clock when MR. BOICE saw the horse coming out of the river so the body was in the water two hours or more. Every effort was made to restore the spark of life and Dr. Stuart aided by others who were expert in first aid methods labored steadily for three hours before giving up hope of bringing the boy back to life. We understand KENNETH had been in the habit of crossing the water to the islands on horseback but had never before attempted to cross at this point. He could not swim and the water at the point where the body was found was from eight to ten feet deep and about fifty feet from the shore. The terrible tragedy has cast a shadow of sorrow over the entire community for KENNETH was a young man well liked by all who knew him. A Junior in the Nashua high school and popular with his schoolmates. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the grief stricken parents and relatives. KENNETH LA VERNE BOICE, eldest son of MR. AND MRS. HIRAM BOICE, was born on a farm near Republic January 29, 1908 being at the time of his death 17years, 7 months and 14 days old. Nearly all of his life was spent on the farm in the vicinity of Republic, the family moving to a farm just north of Nashua last spring. After completing the eighth grade he attended the Nashua High school, having just entered on his third year. He confessed his faith in Christ on Mother's day 1921, at the Christian church at Republic and soon after was baptized by Rev. T. M. Walton. He still retained his membership in that church at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his untimely death, besides his parents, four sisters and one brother, MILDRED, ETHEL, GRACE, LLOYD and EVELYN, also a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. A prayer service was held at the home at 1:30 Sunday, and funeral services were held at the M. E. church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Allison, of Waterloo officiating and burial was at Greenwood.
