Description	:	Kenneth Leander Hammes, 83, died January 23, 2014 at his home in Solon, Iowa. He was born on February 22, 1930 near Clear Creek to Michael and Cecilia Striegel Hammes. He spent his childhood on the family farm south of Harper and attended school at Ss Peter and Paul School in Clear Creek. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Read More	Kenneth Leander Hammes, 83, died January 23, 2014 at his home in Solon, Iowa. He was born on February 22, 1930 near Clear Creek to Michael and Cecilia Striegel Hammes. He spent his childhood on the family farm south of Harper and attended school at Ss Peter and Paul School in Clear Creek. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the military Kenneth and Elmer Conrad farmed, b ought and sold antiques. Kenneth was a master wood carver and carpenter. He used his skills repairing antiques. Kenneth enjoyed taking care of his farm and livestock. In 1991, he met Rosie, the love of his life, and they continued to work on the farm until they moved to Solon in 2007. They enjoyed taking care of their grandsons Walker Kenneth Sea and Carter Nelson Sea. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, playing pool, cards, mushrooming, bowling, and working at the Iowa State Fair. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters Leola Heisdorffer, Agatha Conrad, Dolores Baker, Eveleen Ulin, Beatrice Clubb, three brothers Lawrence "Bud" Hammes, Edwin Hammes, and Marvin Hammes. He is survived by his wife Rosie, adopted daughter Teresa R. Lauback Sea, two grandsons, two sisters Elizabeth Conrad and Donna Paarman, one brother Cletus Hammes all of Sigourney and many nieces and nephews. He was Godfather to Fran Vannier and Tammy Conrad-Hoover. Funeral Service: Monday 10 am January 23, 2014 St. Mary Catholic Church. Prayers Service: 3 pm Sunday at the Holm Funeral Home. Visitation 3:30-7 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Clear Creek. A memorial fund has been established.
