Kenneth Fred Ludwigs was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Craig, the son of Fred and Grace (Eggebrecht) Ludwigs. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran in Craig. Read More	Kenneth Ludwigs, 78, of rural Le Mars, died suddenly Sunday evening, Feb. 6, 2005, at his home. Kenneth Fred Ludwigs was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Craig, the son of Fred and Grace (Eggebrecht) Ludwigs. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran in Craig. Ken served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. On Feb. 17, 1957, Ken was united in marriage to LaRae Johnson at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township. The couple farmed and raised cattle and hogs on the family farm in Grant Township from 1957 until the early 1990s when Ken's health began to fail and he retired from farming. In his retirement years Ken enjoyed gardening and working in his shop in the basement. Ken was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he had served as a deacon, trustee, and on the cemetery board. He was a 50-plus year member of the Heeren-McHale-Wilken American Legion Post 724 of Brunsville and was a past post commander. For years Ken enjoyed helping with the pancake breakfasts at the Legion Club on Sunday mornings. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, LaRae of rural Le Mars; a son, Ron of rural Le Mars; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Lester Grasz of Le Mars; four grandchildren, Kenzi, Shandi, Brodi, and Lindi Ludwigs of Craig; a niece, Carol Yanacheak of Le Mars; a nephew, Randy Grasz of Sioux City; and many friends. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Grace (Eggebrecht) Ludwigs; and a son, Barry Ludwigs on Oct. 19, 2004. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars, with the Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Interment will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery with graveside military honors provided by Heeren-McHale-Wilken American Legion Post 724 of Brunsville. Visitations will be after 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 5 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Pallbearers will be Joel Ludwigs, Randy Grasz, Larry Bauerly, Victor Renken, Maynard Mammen, and Dean Detloff. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Ludwigs, Glen Haage, Wilbur Renken, and Ervin Renken.
