Kenneth Oscar Klanderud, age 89 of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Mountain View Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Kenneth was born November 12, 1918 at Obert, NE to Oscar and Ella (Thompson) Klanderud. He grew up in the Obert area and graduated from Obert High School in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 stationed in California and Alaska. He married Ardis Jones on December 22, 1943 at Hartington. After his discharge from the service he farmed in northeast Nebraska until moving to Omaha in 1956 where he worked as a civil engineer at Roberts Dairy until his retirement in 1981. He held various offices for Our Saviors Lutheran Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Omaha. In 1983 they moved to Hartington where Kenneth was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Town and Country Square Dance Club and the Hartington VFW Post 5283. Ardis died on April 7, 1989. On July 22, 2000 Kenneth married Betty Reilly at South Sioux City, NE. He and Betty made their home in Hartington and spent the last seven winters in Mesa, AZ. Kenneth is survived by his wife Betty of Hartington; 5 children, Robert Klanderud of Mankato, MN; Sandra and James Nash of Corvallis, OR; Richard Klanderud of Omaha; Brenda and Michael Klingensmith of Kansas City, MO; Nancy and Timothy Cullen of Omaha; 12 grandchildren, Kevin, Katie, Corey, LaNell, Keith, Kris, and Kent Klanderud, Jennifer, Cameron, and Danella Nash, Kathryn and Jonathan Klingensmith, 7 great grandchildren, Andrew, Mary, Carter, Thomas, Hope and Anthony Klanderud, and Kegan Cullen, 6 step children, Bill and Luanna Reilly of Dallas, TX; Tom and Cindy Reilly of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Deb and Ed Schwegler of Hubbard, NE; Kevin and Sharon Reilly of Sioux City, Iowa; Karen and Jerry Iler of Atlanta, Georgia; Chris and Jim Knudson of Silverdale, WA; 9 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, a brother, Wendell and Barb Klanderud of Blair, NE; 2 sisters, Eunice Heimes of Hartington, and Phyllis and Lee Fideline of Ralston, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Ardis.
