Description	:	Kenneth Paul “Ken” Torpin, 94, of Doniphan died on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Service and celebration of life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Burial will be in Central City Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy and Veterans Honor Guard. Read More	Kenneth Paul “Ken” Torpin, 94, of Doniphan died on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Service and celebration of life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Ken was born May 13, 1923 at Oakdale, NE, the son of Henry K. and Vera (Stanley) Torpin. When he was very young, Ken’s family moved to Central City. Growing up during the depression, he worked hard to help his family. He had a country paper route which he rode on his bike rain or snow and he began working in a grocery store at the age of 16. Ken graduated from Central City High School, class of 1941. On November 6, 1942, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Navy, because he said, “It was the right thing to do.” He spent the next three years serving his country as a medical corpsman during WWII. With little training he gave shots, assisted in surgery, treated wounds and saw men die. The kid from Nebraska that was still wet behind the ears grew up and became a man in a hurry. After his discharge, Ken married the mother of his children, Darlene Quick in August, 1947. He was later united in marriage to Alice Foulk Hartford on April 21, 1972. Ken stayed with the grocery industry, eventually owning and operating Ken’s Rodeo Market in O’Neill. He retired in 1988 after 45 years in the grocery business. He and Alice enjoyed traveling over the years, eventually getting a home in Arizona, where they spent their winters. Ken was an avid Husker fan, and loved golf and fishing. Family was important and Ken enjoyed the visits from his grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Alice; children, Terry (Deanna) Torpin of O’Neill, Paul (Valli) Torpin of O’Neill, Julie Billeter of Holdrege, Susan (Mark) Henk of Grand Island and Kendra (Bill Fox) Haynes Fox of Shelby, IA; step-children, Cathy Hartford Richardson of Kearney, Diane Hartford Bengtson of Omaha, Debra Hartford of Lincoln and Kenny Hartford (Vicky Shaad) of Grand Island. Survivors also include 11 grandchildren, Brian, Kylee, Brady, Adam, Grant, Clay, Meredith, Andrea, Eric, Alex and Alyssa; 9 step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Stefan, Teresa, Megan, Tonya, Ryan, Mandee, Tara and Derek; and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gregory Torpin; stepson, Kevin Hartford; granddaughter, Jocelyn Torpin and son-in-law, Stephen Billeter.
