Services were held at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the Rev. Don Gordon officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars L.A. Wescott Post 2253. Kenneth was born November 9, 1923, in Cherokee, Iowa, to John and Della (Dunn) Barnes. He graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1941, then attended the American Technical School in Chula Vista, California. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. While in service, he graduated from the New London Connecticut Submarine School and served on the USS Quillback SS-424. Following the war, he operated the Phillips 66 gas station in Cherokee for a few years. He farmed and was active in the Barnes Rodeo Productions for many years. He had been a resident of Cherokee for the past three years, prior to this his home was on a farm northeast of Cherokee. He is survived by a sister, Marjorie Barnes of Cherokee; a brother and his wife, Bob and Donita Barnes of Peterson, Iowa; two nephews and their wives, John and Cindy Barnes of Sutherland, Iowa, and Marty and Kendall Barnes of Peterson, Iowa; a niece and her husband, Mitzi and Michael Johnson of Litchfield, Minnesota; five great-nephews; and four great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
