Kenneth R. Meyer, 33, who was killed in action on Saipan June 27, 1944, and whose body arrived at the Johnson-Murdoch funeral home in Newton Wednesday of this week. Born in Kellogg Sept. 22, 1915, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Meyer of this place, his early life was spent here and he graduated from the local high school in the class of 1933. He was inducted into service October 22, 1941, and received his training at Camp Walters, Texas. He left this country with the 27th Division, 106th Infantry, March 20, 1942. Ben Morgan Post of American Legion of this place provided a color guard to meet the train Wednesday and formed an escort to the funeral home in Newton. Rev. W.W. Watson, pastor of the local church, will have charge of the services and music will include two hymns "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," sung by Mrs. R.S. Dunn, with accompaniment by Mrs. Mabel Veber. Burial will be made in Our Silent City cemetery. Surviving relatives include the parents; one brother, Roy Meyer of this place; one sister, Mrs. Gene Hunter of Grinnell; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Devore; and the paternal grandfather, Charles Meyer; both of this place; besides numerous other relatives and a large circle of friends. This is the second service man's body to be returned to Kellogg, the other being that of James Gregory, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gregory, in April, 1944.
