Read More	Kenneth "Ken" "Captain Ernie" R. Earnest, 67, of La Crosse passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Burlington, Iowa, on July 7, 1944, to Clarence R. and Erma M. (Wilson) Earnest. Ken graduated from Wapello High School in 1962 and the University of Iowa with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering in 1967. He was a member of Pau Beta Pi, an honorary scholastic fraternity and Pi Tau Sigma, an honorary mechanical engineering fraternity. Ken had worked at Trane Co. in La Crosse and Admiral Refrigeration in Galesburg, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in New Jersey from 1969 to 1971, designing cannons and artillery for tanks. Ken received his MBA from the University of Arkansas in 1973, where he was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma, an honorary fraternity and received his Ph D. in accounting from the University of Texas in 1978, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, an honorary scholastic fraternity and Beta Alpha Psi an accounting fraternity. Ken was certified both in managerial and public accounting. Ken was employed at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.; Illinois State University in Normal, Ill.; and at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse until his retirement. He had a wonderful network of friends and family with whom he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and card playing. Ken is survived by his brother, Dan (Tamela) Earnest of Ozark, Mo.; his sister, Nancy Miller of Ridgeland, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews whom he enjoyed spending time with.
