The story goes that my dad, Ray, was dating a certain miss named Ruth, but then Fate stepped in when Ruth first glimpsed Kenny with his "black wavy hair" and that was that. The story goes that my dad, Ray, was dating a certain miss named Ruth, but then Fate stepped in when Ruth first glimpsed Kenny with his "black wavy hair" and that was that. Kenny and Ruth married and had three children: Kenneth Eugene ("Gene"), Geneva, and Alice Jane. Kenny and Ruth lived in a lovely old house with a huge weeping willow in the front yard. I always loved that tree. Ruth died of cancer in the spring of 1962, and several years later Kenny married his childhood sweetheart, a woman named Helen. This may or may not be interesting to you, but when Kenny married Helen, she became "Ken's Helen" to differentiate between his son's wife ("Gene's Helen") and his brother's widow and my mother ("Ray's Helen"). Three Helen Alspaughs in such a small community is remarkable, at least to me. When I think of my Uncle Kenny, what I remember most is that his voice was so much like his brother's (my daddy's) that it gave me great comfort after my daddy died. Uncle Kenny was devoted to his sister, Leota (also on findagave). Since Leota was much older than Kenny and unable to have kids, she treated Kenny like her baby, and his kids like her grandchildren. Kenny is shown in the picture standing behind the woman in a black dress. His mother is wearing the flowered dress, and his wife Ruth is at his right. Their youngest child Alice Jane is in the front row all the right to the left. ---- Kenneth R. Alspaugh, 88, Groveport, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 1994, at a Winchester Place Nursing Facility. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m, today, with funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, Canal Winchester. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery.
