Rhoad Funeral Home provided services with burial in Taylor. Mr. Goss was born on Nov. 4, 1925, at the family ranch in Loup County to Frederick August Wilhelm and Anna Maude May (Darling) Goos. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Connie Goss of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnnie Bruce Stanley and Jackie Goss of Sedgwick, Kan., and Fred Allen William and Jean Goss; a sister and brother-in-law, Etta and Don Percell of Topeka, Kan.; and a brother, Ralph of Ava, Mo. Additional survivors include a grandson, Blaine Frederick of Greensboro, N.C., step granddaughter, Misty Carr and step grandson, Ben Carr and step great-granddaughter, Taya; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ken grew up on the family ranch and attended a country school just a mile from his home. As the youngest of eight children and somewhat of a tag along, the nieces and nephews were his playmates. One of Ken's earliest memories was at the age of four when he asked his mother while riding on a stick horse made by his dad, "Ma'am, have you seen any strays?" As Ken grew into manhood he developed a strong and special love for the sandhills with its solitude, unique geography, wildlife, history and people. He could ride for miles and other then cattle and horses, never see a person. His favorite time was early morning and watching the sunrise over the distant hills. As a young man, he purchased a pair of greyhounds and hunted the elusive coyote on horse back and later with pickup truck and dog box it became an enjoyment as well as a way to earn money by selling the pelts. In 1955, Paul Kamery and Ken started hunting together. That was the beginning of a lifelong friendship with so many stories to be told about their dogs and the coyotes being caught or the ones that were missed to be hunted another day. When his father died in 1950, Ken and his brother Fred helped their mother continue to operate the 10,000-acre ranch. When their mother developed diabetes and eventually became an invalid, the two brothers cared for her until her death in 1958. Ken married Connie Jean Ralls on June 26, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Sargent. Two sons came from this union, John in 1961 and Fred in 1964. Ken's career path led him to raising Shorthorn cattle in the Nebraska sandhills north of Taylor, following his father's footsteps from the early 20th century. Ken and his family resided on the home place in Loup County until moving to Ainsworth, where he continued in the cattle business until 1975. Ken and his family moved to Grand Island in 1978, and he worked until he retired in 1987. Ken was an avid Cornhusker fan and witnessed first hand the Devany era and its many successes. Many Saturday afternoons found Ken with family eagerly listening to Nebraska games on the AM radio whether in the pickup or watching Nebraska on television at home. His wishes were to remain at home and die by the grace of God and with his wife's care. He was a keen reader of his Bible and non-fiction books, which only added to his thirst for knowledge. Ken was saved through the ministries of pastors John R. Rice and Oliver B. Greene in January 1971. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Theodore and Fred; and sisters, Anna Peters, Freida McCoy and Hope Brockman.
