Kenneth Stephens Hume, age 76, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away the morning of November 17, 2010. He was born June 16, 1934 in Davenport, Washington to Jas "James" and Marguerite Hume. Kenneth Stephens Hume, age 76, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away the morning of November 17, 2010. He was born June 16, 1934 in Davenport, Washington to Jas "James" and Marguerite Hume. He was raised in a large family with five brothers and five sisters. Ken served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era as a Communications Specialist. He was stationed in Formosa (now Taiwan). He served from December 21, 1953 to November 23, 1956 and received an honorable discharge. He met Marion Louise Jones while working for Western Electric in Seattle, Washington. They were married on September 21, 1957. They have called Vancouver, Washington home since 1968. Ken graduated with an associate's degree from Clark College - the first awarded to someone taking only night classes. He was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Brush Prairie, Washington, where he served in many capacities. Ken worked for the Washington Department of Transportation for 30+ years. He started his career as an electrical technician and at the time of his retirement was a traffic signal and lighting inspector. Ken is survived by brothers, Frank and Ralph Hume; wife, Marion Hume; son, Steve Hume of Vancouver; daughters, Kathy Simmons of Amboy, Washington, Patricia May of Vader, Washington and Louise Griffith of Vancouver, Washington; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and father. He never met a stranger. Two of his favorite things were spending time with his family and puttering in the garden. A memorial service was held on November 27, 2010 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 12919 NE 159th St., Brush Prairie, WA. Please make donations to either the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association in Ken's name. Published in The Columbian, Vancouver, WA on November 23, 2010 .
