(Schumacher) Kimmen, was born on July 20, 1931 on the family farm east of Earling, Iowa. Read More	Father of Cynthia Katherine & Keith Thomas Kimmen ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Kenneth Thomas Kimmen - Age 80. Kenneth Thomas Kimmen, son of Lawrence M. and Hilda A. (Schumacher) Kimmen, was born on July 20, 1931 on the family farm east of Earling, Iowa. He attended country school through the eighth grade then graduated from St. Paul’s High School in Defiance, Iowa with the class of 1949. After high school, Kenny worked for the John Rosman Seed Company until March of 1952, when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country honorably as a gunners mate aboard the mine sweeper USS Toucan until February of 1956. Also while in the service, Kenny was united in marriage to Darlene A. Sorenson of April 20, 1954 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. To this union, two children were born: Cindy and Keith. Upon his discharge, Kenny and Darlene farmed outside of Dunlap, Iowa. A short time later they made their home in Harlan, Iowa where he worked as a delivery driver for the Squealer Feed Company for nearly 15 years. He then opened and ran the Phillips 66 Service Station near Avoca, Iowa. He then ran an auto repair shop in Avoca and Harlan and bartended at the VFW Club in Harlan. After the death of Darlene on August 5, 1994, Kenneth continued to make his home in Harlan until November of 2010 when he became a resident of the Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, Iowa. This is where he died on June 15, 2012 having attained the age of eighty years, ten months and twenty-six days. In addition to his parents and wife, Kenny was preceded in death by his granddaughter Cadie Scheffler and his sister Phyllis and her husband Richard Grote. He is survived by his special friend, Ruth Lambertsen; his daughter: Cindy and her husband Curt Scheffler and son Keith Kimmen; his grandchildren:Kayle Kimmen, Dylan Kimmen, Christa Scheffler and Curtis Scheffler, his great grandchildren: Kamden, Kobe, Avery and Hayden, daughter-in-law Denise Kimmen all of Harlan, Iowa; his sisters: Ramona and her husband Gene Case of Manning, Iowa and Bonnie and her husband Chuck Jacobs of Harlan; his brothers: Ray Kimmen and his wife Ellen of Hastings, Minnesota; Mike Kimmen and his wife Judy of Defiance, Iowa; Al Kimmen and his wife Gail of Isabella, Missouri and Larry Kimmen and his wife Betty of Dunlap, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends. Rev. John Frost celebrated the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Dylan Kimmen, Curtis Scheffler, Christa Scheffler, Holly Peterson, Kayle Kimmen, Lynn Kimmen, and Kevin Muell. Military Rites were held at the Harlan Cemetery.
