He was born January 19, 1834, a son of Virgil and Goldie McCalip. He married Nancy Kolp, who survives. A Shelby County resident for most of his life, he owned and operated the Pleasant View Marathon station for 23 years. Prior to that, he was employed by Detroit Diesel Allison, Indianapolis, for nine years. Mr McCalip was a member of the Acton Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Acton Volunteer Fire Department. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs Goldie McCalip Martin; a son, Michael McCalip; two daughters, Mrs William (Deborah) Stout and Mrs Ronald (Cynthia) Hybarger; and six grandchildren, all of Pleasant View. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs Wilma Barrett of New Palestine and Mrs Carole Weaver of Carmel. Services will be Wednesday at 1 PM at the Hendryx Mortuary Cumberland Chapel. Burial will be in New Palestine Cemetery. Masonic memorial services will be Tuesday at 7:30 PM at the mortuary. Friends may call at the mortuary from 4 to 9 PM Monday and 2 to 9 PM Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
