Description	:	Kenny Russell Gill, 71, of McCook Lake entered peacefully into heaven on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by all of his loved ones. He courageously battled cancer and leukemia for 10 years. He was strongly supported by his loving and devoted wife and family. Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, S.D., with the Rev. David Roerich officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Kenny was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Sioux City, to Joseph and Rose (Keller) Gill. He graduated from East High School in 1951, where he played football for four years. He married Noreen Madeline Sales on Aug. 9, 1957, in Sioux City. They moved to McCook Lake in 1964. He was a master plumber for 50 years. He worked for several plumbing and heating shops, including his own business, Gill Plumbing and Heating. He was a former superintendent of the McCook Lake Sanitary District. He retired in 1994. He was a former board member of the McCook Lake Izaak Walton League for several years. He was a former member of the Local 18 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. He was a huge sports fan. He loved the Cubbies and the Cornhuskers. His hobbies include woodworking, boating, traveling with special friends to many places far and wide. He loved Branson, Mo., and Mickey Gilley. His greatest love was spending time with his family and grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. Although he suffered, he continued to have a positive, happy outlook and a strong faith in God. He always asked how everyone was with a smile. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Noreen; a son and his wife, Dennis and Kandy; three daughters and their husbands, Lorie and Daniel Merrill, Sally and Francis Neville and Kendra and Jeff LaCroix; grandchildren, Ty, Joey and special friend, Amy, Sara, Garret, Tristan and special friend, Jamie, Sheldon, LaRissa, Faythe, Nicholas, Kialey, Makenzie, Hailey, Carter, Carlee, Natalie, Jordan and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Haley, Makenna and a baby due in February 2004; a sister, Rosemary Bertrand; a brother, Tom; his father-in-law, Dan Gosnell and his wife, JoAnne of Hopewell, Va.; a brother-in-law, Alan Sales; sisters-in-law, Peggy Sales, Deanna Sales and Fern Gill-Godsey; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends, Dieter and Liesel Hallwas and Jim and Elma Mandicino. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose; sisters, Helen and Vivian; brothers, Edward, William and his wife, Beverly, and John; brothers-in-law, Bill Browsky, Norbert Bertrand, Bob Fairbanks and Weston and Gary Sales; a son-in-law, Danny Libby Jr.; a grandchild, Taylor Ray LaCroix; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret Sales Gosnell and Joseph Sales Jr.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers will be Ty Merrill, Joey Merrill, Garret Merrill, Sara Merrill, Tristan Libby and Sheldon Neville. Honorary pallbearers will be John Sales, LaRissa Neville and Faythe Sales. Memorials may be directed to Siouxland Regional Cancer Center or St. Luke's Regional Medical Center Oncology Department.
