Obituary Kermit Hellyer, son of John and Etta Fountain Hellyer was born in Wayne County, Iowa, Aug 11, 1908 and departed this life in Lutz, Florida, Nov. 8, 1957, at the age of 49 years, 2 months, and 27 days. Obituary Kermit Hellyer, son of John and Etta Fountain Hellyer was born in Wayne County, Iowa, Aug 11, 1908 and departed this life in Lutz, Florida, Nov. 8, 1957, at the age of 49 years, 2 months, and 27 days. He was the youngest of five children. He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, Lucile; his mother; three step-children and a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Doris Anderson and Blair Bott of Des Moines, and Max and Jean Bott of Ames, Iowa; also three sisters, Mrs. Zella Achor of Promise City, Iowa, Mrs. Beryl Lord of Promise City, and Mrs. Ethel Trimble of Powersville, MO, as well as nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. His father and only brother, Earl, preceded him in death.
On June 22, 1938, he was married to Lucile Thierman Bott in Bethany, MO. He worked for several years for the Grismore Jewelry store in Corydon as a watch repairman.
He enlisted in the Navy Dec. 7, 1942. After serving for two years, during which he participated in three invasions, he received his honorable discharge. He as a charter member of the servicemen’s Masonic Club on Guam.
He and his family then came to Seymour, where he established his own jewelry business. A long-standing heart ailment forced his semi-retirement in 1952. At that time he sold his business to John Grismore, and he and his wife spent the last two years in Florida. He was a devoted husband and will always be remembered by his step-children as a kind and helpful father. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge in Seymour, a member of the Seymour Methodist church and was active in other civic and community organizations. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. The Rev. Mark Weston of the Corydon Methodist church was assisted by the Rev. J.C. Turner of the Seymour Methodist church for the rites at the Seymour church Monday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Corydon cemetery.
Pallbearers were Don Hofstetter, Dean Trimble, Harold Leazer, Stanley Grismore, Bob Hellyer, Lyle Hellyer, all nephews, and Flower ladies were Mrs. Zell Park, Mrs. Floyd McNaught, Mrs. Hobart Cook, and Mrs. Bob Whitmore. David Erickson sang “In the Sweet Bye and Bye” and “Beyond the Sunset”, accompanied by Mrs. C.D. Erickson. Military graveside rites were accorded by the Nye-Birdwell American Legion post.
