He was baptized on August 28, 1927 by Pastor Oetting and later confirmed n April 6, 1941 by Pastor Falsken at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer, NE. Kermit attended Cuming Co. Kermit Walter Schweers was born August 2, 1927 at Pender, NE to Walter and Verna (Grosse) Schweers. He was baptized on August 28, 1927 by Pastor Oetting and later confirmed n April 6, 1941 by Pastor Falsken at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer, NE. Kermit attended Cuming Co. Rural School District #67 and graduated from Wisner High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1947 and worked at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. After his discharge he helped his father on the farm. On June 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to Velma Fullner at St. John's Lutheran Church. To this union seven children were born. They farmed north of Beemer until March of 1957, when they moved to a farm near Wisner, NE. They became members of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, where he held various positions. He served on the District #34 school board and had also served on the ASCS committee in West Point for nine years. The couple moved into Wisner in November of 1989 and joined St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was an Elder and belonged to the Men's Bible Breakfast. Kermit was a Cuming County Supervisor for 12 years, was a member of the American Legion Post #159. He also worked at the Wisner Care Center. Survivors include- His wife of 62 years Velma Schweers of Wisner, NE Sons- David and wife Connie Schweers of Beemer, NE Roger Schweers of Bancroft, NE Mark and wife Martha Schweers of Wisner, NE Timothy Schweers of Wisner, NE 13 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren- Joshua Schweers of Wisner, NE; James and wife Sarah Schweers of Lincoln, NE and children-Tayler, Jayden and Madison; Rebecca and husband Matt Siebrandt of Carrol, NE and children-Braxton, Brooklyn and Brenna; Deborah and husband Kerry Kopecky of O'Neill, NE and children-Dalton and Dallas; Ruth and husband Andrew Woehler of Columbus, NE; Andrew Schweers and fiancée Jade Donner of Wisner, NE; Samuel Schweers of Wisner, NE; Daniel Schweers of Wisner, NE; Sarah Schweers of Beemer, NE; Jamie and husband Michael Stout of Bancroft, NE; Megan and husband Tyler Jensen of Lincoln, NE; Mitchell Schweers of Wisner, NE; and Mariha Schweers of Wisner, NE Sister- Jolene and husband Dick Motzkus of Omaha, NE Brother- Russ and wife Fran Schweers of Wisner, NE Sister-in-laws- Liz Schweers of Port St. Joe, FL Luetta Fullner of Beemer, NE Kermit was preceded in death by his parents, son Lynn, two infant daughters, and one brother-John Schweers. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Lutheran Hour Ministries and LCMS World Relief and Human Care.
