Cherokee Man, 33, Killed In Freak Truck Accident A 33 year-old Cherokee County man was killed in a freak truck accident Tuesday in Lawndale, N.C. Kessler A. Moss of Gaffney Route 1 died of internal bleeding after the rear wheel of an electric company truck ran over him. J. Neal Grissom, Cleveland County assistant solicitor, said the accident happened this way: Moss was riding in the front seat of the truck about 3:45 p.m. A crane of the truck used for erecting electric poles hooked an overhead telephone cable as the vehicle crossed a bridge. The truck swerved to the right hitting the bridge and slinging the door open. Moss fell out the door and the rear wheel passed over his body. Moss suffered a broken spine, crushed ribs and other internal injuries, Mr. Grissom said. Coroner Ollie Harris said no inquest is planned. The truck was owned by F. A. Tucker Co. of Charlotte, Mr. Grissom said. Moss had been employed with the firm two days. Moss was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Moss; three brothers, W. Y. and Osborne of Gaffney and Cpt. A. W., stationed in Germany; and three sisters, Nancy Moss Lipscomb, Mrs. James Fortenbarry and Miss Ella Moss, all of Gaffney.
