Read More	The Ottumwa Courier online Posted: Wednesday, August 20, 2014 4:54 pm KEVIN EUGENE SAMMONS OTTUMWA — Kevin Eugene Sammons, 57, of Ottumwa, died August 19, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City of a sudden illness. He was born July 4, 1957, in Ottumwa to Donald and Mabel Anderson Sammons. He married Mary Kuhns on May 14, 1988. To this union, two children were born. They later divorced. A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1976, he attended Indian Hills Community College, graduating from the machinist program in 1978. Kevin farmed north of Ottumwa and was a machinist for Mag Dynamics and Clow Valve in Oskaloosa. He also worked 31 years for Alliant Energy. He was a dedicated and hard worker. He was a member and deacon of Bethany Baptist Church, where he had taught Sunday school. He enjoyed riding his Harley and had been a member of ABATE. His goal was to visit every state on his motorcycle, of which he was very close. Through his children, his goal will be fulfilled. Growing up, he was active in 4-H and remained active helping his children with their 4-H projects. He also enjoyed traveling with his children. Kevin enjoyed watching NASCAR and especially NHRA. This past year he had the opportunity to ride in a stock car at the Newton Raceway. He owned a 1968 Chevelle SS that he enjoyed taking to car shows. He enjoyed gardening, baking and making homemade meals. He was a very good cook, having mastered the art of making his mother’s homemade noodles. He loved his dogs, tinkering with machinery and especially spending time with his family. Surviving is a son, Kyle Sammons of North Liberty; a daughter, Kelly Sammons of Eddyville; his parents of Ottumwa; a sister, Nadina (Terry) Schulte of St. Charles, Missouri; two nephews, Cpt. Levi Hofts USMC of Ottumwa stationed in Audi Dubai and Frederick Hofts of Iowa City; a niece, Elliott Hofts of Waterloo; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Elizabeth Sammons and W. Hervey and Beatrice Anderson. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastors Timothy Curtiss and Charles Comfort officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
