Description	:	Kevin Lee Powell, 52, formerly of Ottumwa, passed away unexpectedly in a Boone County car accident on the afternoon of Jan. 7, 2011. Services will be 1:30 pm Saturday, Jan. 15, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with visitation from 12 pm until service time. A celebration of Kevin's life will follow at 3 pm at the Tip Top Lounge with a potluck dinner. His cremated remains will be inurned at Flores Cemetery, Bloomfield, at a later date. Kevin was born Dec. 21, 1958, in Iowa Falls, the first child of William and Mary Louise(Northup)Powell. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1977 and completed a two-year Radiology Tech course at Indian Hills Community College in 1985. Kevin has lived in and around the Ames area for more than 20 years and has worked at Mary Greeley for the past 22 years. Kevin was a vibrant personality, who had a quick smile and always made others laugh. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and lived life with an "anything goes" attitude. Recently, he went back to his "love to ride" and bought a 2000 Harley Sportster. Days off were spent on leisure rides, Poker runs, traveling/sightseeing and some activities with the Patriot guard. Kevin would smile and exclaim, "Wow! What a ride". He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Cassie Powell, of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Kendal Powell, of Colorado; sister, Lisa(Kevin)Hastings and their son, Crete, of Bloomfield; girlfriend, Daren Shepard of Ogden; and numerous friends, fellow riders and co-workers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations.
