He went on to earn a degree in dairy science from Iowa State University. On July 10, 1976, Kevin was united in marriage to Dianne Thompson at Elgin Lutheran Church in Elgin, Iowa. His hobbies and interests included gardening, singing, computers, photography, and making wine. He loved camping, fishing, and spending time with friends and family, especially his granddaughters. Kevin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in West Union where he was a past member of the senior choir and previously served on the endowment trust board, church council, served as chairman of the finance committee and as president of the church. He served on the Good Samaritan board, the West Union Country Club board, West Union Ambassadors, and was a member of the West Union Lions Club and the Luren singers in Decorah. He also served as a scoutmaster for Troop 54 for the Boy Scouts.
