Description	:	*Kirby Joe Laughery*, the son of LeRoy James Laughery and Golda Lesta Spitler was born February 14, 1922 on the family farm. He attended Bear Grove#2 Country school and graduated Guthrie Center High School in 1940. Upon graduation, Kirby took over the operation of the family farm with his draft horses and McCormack Deering Tractor. He raised cattle, hogs, and sheep. Read More	*Kirby Joe Laughery*, the son of LeRoy James Laughery and Golda Lesta Spitler was born February 14, 1922 on the family farm. He attended Bear Grove#2 Country school and graduated Guthrie Center High School in 1940. Upon graduation, Kirby took over the operation of the family farm with his draft horses and McCormack Deering Tractor. He raised cattle, hogs, and sheep. Kirby sustained the loss of his left arm on June 10, 1960 in a car accident. He then married Lulu Fannie Hall on August 12, 1960.… The loss of his arm made him handicapped but what he lost was preserved with the help of his wife and children. Kirby was a member of Odd Fellow Lodge for 50 years. He enjoyed reading, visiting, and attending auctions. One of his highlights each year was to see the sale of fat cattle when they were sold in Omaha or his feeder cattle in later years in Guthrie Center. Kirby passed away at home on January 5, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Lulu; daughter Leora, son Kevin (Helen) of Guthrie Center, son Mark (Carol) of Yale, Iowa. Grandchildren Logan, Ethan, and Cameron Laughery, Julie O'Karma, Travis Christal, and Kimbery Laughery; sister Zona Merryman of Urbandale, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lynn, infant brother Lyle Keith, and nephew Kelly Merryman.
