Olsen, Iowa Veterans Home who died there Thursday morning will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Leisure Resource Center of Malloy Hall, IVH. Mr. Olsen was born Jan 24, 1894 at Stege, , Moen, Denmark, the son of Hans P. and Johanna (Jensen) Olsen. He was married to vera L. Bellefeuille June 22, 1921 in Marshalltown and she died in 1968. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Olsen McKinney Texas and Marlyne Brindle, Conrad, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Olsen was reared and educated in Denmark and came to the United States in 1911 he first lived in Omaha Neb. and than moved to Marshalltown on 1917. He had been employed at Dunham-Bush and also operated a Standard Oil station at the conner of first avenue and state street for 25 years, retiring in 1956. After his retirement the Olsen's moved to Santa Barbara, Calif. but following the death of Mrs. Olsen he moved back to Marshalltown to the Iowa Veterans home in 1974 During the years he lived IVH he became active in school volunteer program and was extremely active as a volunteer in the social studies department at Miller Junior High School. He was a veteran of World War 1 having served in the U.S. Army and fought the Battle of Argonne Forest, where he was wounded and earned the Purple heart. He was a member of Frank Lewis Glick Post 46, the American Legion, and also World War 1 Barracks 1104, the 40 & 8, Marshall Elks Lodge 312, Kiwanis and the Goethe Odd Fellows Lodge.
