Description	:	Knud Knudson I was born in Drangedal, Norway, July 6, 1823. His father, Knud Abrahamsen, and mother, Kirsti Paulsdatter, were also born in Norway, both in 1787. Often, children's family name became a combination of their father's given name with son or daughter (datter) added. So, Knud became Knud Knudson. Often, children's family name became a combination of their father's given name with son or daughter (datter) added. So, Knud became Knud Knudson. Knud I grew to manhood in that country of fjords and trees. He married Gunhild (Julia) Stenger born in 1837 in Drangedal, Norway. Three sons were born to them while they lived in Norway, Knud II, Anund (Andy) and Abraham. In May 1870, the family came to America. Their infant son, Abraham, died during the voyage and was buried at sea. Probably because they had friends or acquaintances in Harmony, Minnesota, the Knudson's settled there and bought some land. Now another son, also named, Abraham, was born followed by Martinus (Martin) and John. Then a daughter, Anna, was born to complete the family. At the urging of son, Knud II, now on his homestead at Taylor, North Dakota, Knud I brought the rest of his family to Taylor in 1887. He staked a claim about one mile south of his son Knud II. They lived in a sod house built on the hillside only one year before the elder Knud died. It is recalled that as he was chopping wood, a splinter or chunk hit his nose causing bleeding which could not be stopped. He bled to death at the age of 65 years. He was the first one buried in Pioneer Cemetery. His widow, Gunhild or Julia, continued to live on the homestead with her family. Later she went to live with her son, Abe, on his homestead. She also lived with her daughter, Anna, as well as family in Spokane, Washington. Gunhild, Julia, died in 1919 at the age of 82 and was buried beside her husband in the Pioneer Cemetery.
