Description	:	Knute Charles Selland was born March 26, 1925 at his grandparent's home in Decorah, IA to Oscar and Jeannette (Grindeland) Selland. He was raised south of Presho on the White River and attended country school in the Presho area. He worked for area farmers in the Kennebec area. Knute was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. Read More	Knute Charles Selland was born March 26, 1925 at his grandparent's home in Decorah, IA to Oscar and Jeannette (Grindeland) Selland. He was raised south of Presho on the White River and attended country school in the Presho area. He worked for area farmers in the Kennebec area. Knute was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. After his discharge he returned to Lyman County and continued to farm. On May 10, 1952, Knute was united in marriage to Carol Janice Faber at Winner, SD. Together, they made their home north of Kennebec before moving to White Lake and then to Lake Andes where they remained until the fall of 1968 when they moved to Chamberlain. He began working for Lee Schoenhard for a few years. Knute then started working for St. Joseph's Indian School where he worked until retiring. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain and was a very active member of the American Cancer Society. Knute enjoyed being out in the public with people, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends playing cards and visiting. Funeral services for Knute Selland passed away on October 20, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 86 years. Grateful to share his life are his wife Janice of Chamberlain; two daughters Carol Rosales of Hermiston, OR and Paula Bortz and husband August of Gregory; three sons Chuck Selland and wife Joyce, Micheal Selland, and Tom Selland and wife Cindy all of Chamberlain; sisters Evelyn Knutson of Vivian, Janice Moore and husband Dave of Vivian, Alice Christensen of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son-in-law Elpidio Rosales; two sisters Bertha Christensen and Charlotte Pruys; and a brother Clifford Selland. Selland, 86 of Chamberlain will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain beginning at 5:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
